Established in 2003, Iris Innovations manufacture and supply a range of rugged camera equipment specially designed for harsh applications and environments, such as the marine industry, emergency services USVs and UAVs.

Multifunction Displays (MFDs) are the central interface for marine electronics, including CCTV systems. Traditionally, these branded MFDs supported a limited range of CCTV cameras, often with restricted functionality.

Our client aimed to develop a control system compatible with a variety of cameras and brands, ensuring universal support through the MFD.

Working with the client's existing hardware, the IRIS CMAC Camera & Alarm Management System (the box that sits between the MFD and the boat's CCTV system), we first set about standardising the communication protocols across various camera manufacturers.

This allowed us to offer seamless integration and universal support for MFDs from GARMIN, Raymarine, and Simrad, enhancing functionality and compatibility across different systems.

Next, we developed the IRIS Control App, a web application optimised for the system's embedded hardware. Once connected to the boat's MFD and internal network, the app automatically appears and runs as a standalone web app, allowing users to manage their camera right from the MFD.

IRIS now offers a comprehensive command, management, and control system for on-board cameras and alarms. Users can upload custom deck plans, configure CCTV systems, and manage everything through the Iris Control App on their existing touch-screen MFDs.

The system's remote access feature allows secure monitoring and control from anywhere, ensuring peace of mind when away from the boat. Additionally, with future firmware upgrade capabilities, IRIS can continuously introduce new features, helping to extend the product's lifespan.
