We recently developed and delivered a tailor made Automated Storage and Retrieval System for a customer in Southeast Asia, who are at the forefront of data storage, producing high-quality solid-state and hard disk drives for both personal and enterprise use.
Our clients production process was very manual labour intensive, requiring large teams to transport and sort products prior to shipping and packing. To improve safety and efficiency they had embarked on a ten year roadmap, aiming at creating a fully automated ‘ lights out’ factory environment.
Additionally, the project presented challenges such as navigating across international borders, differing time zones, and language barriers.
Working in collaboration with our partners, DPB Automation, we developed and built the world’s first robotic retrieval/storage systems for hard disk drives, in just nine months.
Designed for our customer in Southeast Asia, the system automatically removes and prepares newly manufactured hard drives from racks, where they are stored in stacks until the batch is released. Upon receiving a bulk picking order from the manufacturer, the system efficiently retrieves the drives from the storage grid and prepares them for direct shipment.
Following a successful factory integration our customer has been to increase and improve manufacturing capacity and product traceability, which is crucial to gaining the environmental, sustainability and quality certifications which are vital for our our client to win the types of contracts they are seeking.
Working with Lumico has always been a very positive experience. Their experienced engineers are committed to thoroughly understand the requirements and provide detailed plans to meet the constrained timelines.
